Area events bring out the Irish in you

Before you commence to the official St. Patrick's Day partying, you may want to drop by LifeShare Blood Centers and donate during its "Pints for Paddy's" blood drive.

Those who come to LifeShare Blood Center's main office to donate on today will receive a T-shirt and, with a "wee bit of luck," have a chance to win four passes to Blue Bayou Waterpark in Baton Rouge, a LifeShare tote bag, a gift card from Huddle House in Pineville or one of 5 pairs of one carat peridots from KP Jewelry.

Here's a rundown of other St. Patrick's Day events.

"The Day To be Irish"

The Red River Chorale will celebrate the Irish today with "The Day to be Irish" 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Whether you're Irish or not, you will want to be "wearing the green" and celebrating St. Paddy's Day with the Red River Chorale and special guests The Back Porch Band. Tickets for "The Day To Be Irish" are $10 for adults, and $5 for students of any age. They can be purchased from any Chorale member, at Red River Music in Alexandria, by credit card by calling the Chorale office at (318) 484-4463, or at the door.
Irish beers

Pitchers and Pints Brewhouse, 3231 La. Highway 28 East, Pineville

While you can't get your Irish whiskey fix here, Pitchers and Pints Brewhouse will offer $1 off all Irish beers. Those on tap are Guiness, a dark red stout that originated in Dublin, and Smithwick's, a red ale from Kilkenny. Pitchers and Pints will have a few surprises in store for the spirited. The brewpub offers 15 draft beers and more than 50 bottles in the cooler. Pitchers and Pints serves a full menu, including pizza, burgers and fried pub food. There are pool tables, shuffleboard, darts and skee ball.
